I look Asian today...

Apparently when I wear my hair in braided pigtails, I look "very Asian". This was the first thing my doorman told me as I was exiting the apartment. My mom used to tell me I looked like a peasant when I did this so I was never allowed to 'pigtail' my hair after my early teens.
But alas, I was having a bad hair day this morning, so this was one of the few options I had up my sleeve.

Perhaps it was dinner that inspired some Asian in me this morning...

[Pic note: Baked miso eggplant inspired by Zapp B]

I just halved an eggplant, then cut them into thirds and spread some miso paste on them. USE a lot less miso past than me if you want to recreate this. That stuff is surprisingly powerful if you've never cooked with it before. Also, try to cut some slits into the eggplant so the flavors seep in better. I baked them at 350 for about 30 minutes.

[Pic note: lotus root, tomato, celery, ginger and a mushroom that looks like a cross between maitake and oyster, in a sweet chilli sauce]

ALL over rice of course.

  1. You see, this is exactly why I stopped wearing my hair in pigtails.

    1. The Korean Hmart and my dear friend Zapp Brannagan inspired the dish. The pigtails were inspired by a bad case of bed hair.
